I imagine most people have Googled their name from time to time, mine is a tad uncommon and usually Google kindly tells me that I’m so uncommon that I must have typed the wrong thing…did I not mean to type aging loooooser, and look if I click on the link it will tell me all about the aging loooooser.

However, today I typed my name into the search box, not because I’m big headed or anything but because I had submitted my site to their bots for consideration and wanted to punish myself by finding out how crap this really is and how Google are never going to list it and how their executives are all having a good laugh at the kid whose parents were NOT Dolly Parton fans but she just so happens to be around the right age for the name to “obviously” have come from the song and oh, wouldn’t it be original if everyone who I ever meet greets me with a few lines of THAT song.

Anyway, I digress…today when I Googled my name I found not only my own site (at the top of the list, I’m very proud to say), but also found that some person has knicked my domain…how am I ever going to continue in life deprived of my domain!  The one and only good thing about having my name is that, when setting up email and web accounts, I don’t have to accept the suggestions of wouldn’t you rather be jol478648179806 instead because there’s already a million other people in the world with the same name as you.

So…I searched a bit more and came across the following (I’m sure they’re all lovely) people called Jolene Martin…which begs the question, “Who is the real Jolene Martin?”

NASA
This one works for NASA…very impressive!

SINGER
This one’s an actress and singer…also impressive

REAL
This one sells real estate and has nicked my domain name…not so impressive, eh!

I wonder if they also get sung to from time to time and I wonder if their parents read the same article as mine did when they were choosing names and I wonder whatever happened to that tree surgeon, featured in the National Geographic, who I am apparently named after.
