So, half way through week one and the diet is going ok I suppose. I’ve managed to reduce my hot chocolate intake to one per day and have swapped sugar for sweeteners in my tea at home…all-in-all I’m fairly pleased with my progress thus far.
Last time I was on a diet I found a web site where you could keep track of your daily calorie intake and view nice graphs depicting your progress. I’ve lost the address to that site but have come across another free calorie counter which fits the bill in terms of calorie counting.
The good thing about this site is that it’s completely free, whereas the site I was using before was free for a time and then required a monthly subscription. It took me seconds to sign up this evening and I have already entered my food for today into the calorie counter. The site suggests a daily calorie intake in order for you to reach your ideal weight at a speed that suits you. I chose a normal speed since I’m not trying to win a race or anything. The other nice thing about this site is that you can keep track of various aspects of your diet via the graphs…nice for people like me who are graph-anoraks.
Another very nice thing about this site is that, if you put in the type of exercise you’ve been doing and how long for it tells you how many calories you have burned. This is very important for a calorie counting type of diet since it’s important to consume the right amount of calories per day or your body thinks it’s starving and preserves fat instead of getting rid of it. Need to eat those extra calories you burn off with exercise…what a shame! Did you know that half an hour of aerobic exercise burns 254 calories….that’s got to be enough for a sneaky half bar of chocolate…?
The food database is lacking in some of the foods that I eat often; however I can add these into my personal profile when I have a spare half hour or so…to be honest I think most of these sites are the same…maybe that says something about my eating habits, eh?
I’m not at the stage of calorie counting quite yet but it’s good to have this site in reserve to keep nudging me in the right direction…hopefully their news emails will keep waking me up to the fact that I’m supposed to be losing weight. In the meantime I might join in their forum which seems to have quite a few members and seems a good support network.
